Before the trip I was conjuring an impression of Hong Kong: British Colony in China, Opium Wars, the 1960's television show (B&W) starring aussie Rod Taylor: a journalist on the frontier of espionage crime and drugs working with a stoic Hong Kong policeman played by Lloyd Bochner. Background shots of Victoria Harbour crowded with sampans below a rugged landscape. In 1997 the frontier moved and Hong Kong became the SAR of Hong Kong; recent TV show 'Masterchef' and of course Joe's own '365 Days of Food' blog have highlighted the culinary delights of the city-state.
